Hello All,

I have been using dedicated hosting for last 5 years for personal use. I have seen that the prices for the dedicated hosting have not come down a bit in those years. This makes me feel like all dedicated hosters have found some group and decided to keep things like they are.

4 years ago what I was getting by corenetworks.net, if I go now, I am still getting that same stuff in that same price.

I think the processor prices down so much now companies should have offered some better stuff in same prices. A $29 server will still give you same outdated stuff which it was giving you 5 years ago if you place an order now.

It is a huge ripoff. Now that should have 8GB RAM and i3 if not server grade processor like Xeon.

I am not good in explaining myself but do you guys understand what I am trying to say?

After 5 years, i feel cheated if I pay for Celeron processor and 1GB RAM and 80GB harddisk. This is rubbish.

Well, you can contact your hoster and ask to reduce price for your current hardware, or you can take a new server hardware and pay less.

I am planning to change, but even if I go to other websites I am seeing same prices (or almost same prices) for the same ****. Celeron, Atom, 2GB ram, 1GB ram, support only from 8-5

I do not understand it.

Well, old hardware uses much more electricity than a new hardware. It also needs to be cooled. It costs more , than maintain a new hardware.

You can only go so low. You have power usage, rackspace, etc. Those costs GO UP EVERY YEAR. Then some how they need to still provide you replacement hardware, support, and then make some profit.

If you have been using a dedicated server for all these years and you still only that that tiny of a budget — what are you doing?
The rest of the world operates on increasing costs every single year; meaning your revenue needs to increase every single year to go along with it.

When you have a job, you expect a raise every year or so.
WHT hosting world is one of the only industry’s that expects pricing to remain the same or magically go down instead.

I mentioned that the dedicated server is for personal use. I have my website hosted as well as a friend. I dont need something heavy so even if i change i will only buy another budget server.

The current server fulfill my needs but i just now feel cheated paying this amount for this hardware. I dont feel satisfied.

I am not asking the industry to lower the prices, i am just hoping that they offer better hardware in the same price. We as consumer should see that the industry is evolving in 5 yrs. It is stuck at one place at the moment. IMHO

Get a cloud or VPS server, you will be hosted on newer hardware and possibly have more resources for the same price.

So new hardware will save them electricity bills and will generate less heat and will be faster, it is a win win situation for them also if they upgrade. Even if new company comes and offer something nice.

I was on a VPS one time. It was a very very good company knownhost.com and my site was down for 1.5 days just coz someone on the server was not acting nicely. It took the poor guys from knownhost to track him warn him (site down for 18 hrs) and then i guess they resumed his account and then he again did something and then site down again for 12+ hrs. They kicked him out but that was a signal that i should never ever be on VPS. They were very kind that they kept us updated about our server all the time.

I use 1% of CPU, I use 5% of RAM and I suffered for 1.5 days just coz someone was an *******.

Thats the evolution of the industry you were talking about. Cloud & VPS are the future of the “low end server”.
Find someone using KVM where the limits of each customer are more closely restricted and less apt to effect another customer. OpenVZ are the cheapest types of VPS.
